Scope and Contents Note
The Burgess Papers consist primarily of manuscripts toward for of his
books. Washington University holds typescripts, all signed by Burgess
with corrections and revisions on his hand, of the novels Devil of a State (1961), the Wanting Seed (1962), and Nothing like the Sun (1964). The collection also includes a signed and corrected
typescript, as well as a corrected galley proof, of the book of
criticism, Language Made Plain (1964). Washington Univeristy's
Anthony Burgess collection sis completed by Burgess's typescript
review of John Barht's Giles Goat-Boy
and a muscial composition by Burgess scored for piano and orchestra.
