Scope and Contents Note
The small group of papers represented here consists of a portion of
Eisendrath's professional correspondence. During the course of his
career, Eisendrath developed close personal friendships and working
relationships with numerous contemporary artists. His collection
includes letters and, in some cases, artwork from Alexander Calder, Jean
Dubuffet, and Fernando Leger, among others. One of Eisendrath's closest
friends, and the primary reason his papers are included in this Guide,
was the critic William Troy. Troy's letters to Eisendrath are housed
here and they provide a glimpse at the personal and professional life on
one of our most important critics.
