Scope: Cover title reads/Catalogue of books in all classes of literature from an old county library
m[] [cont] aining the ex-libris of `Fount [ayne] Montague' / Signed on flyleaf `C.F. Sparks,
Alton, Ill.' Autograph list of books including author, title and date of publication; entries
numbered 1 - 830. Each page bears sub-total of volumes listed, in addition to noting previous
pages' cumulative total, evidencing final number of 2,654 volumes. No apparent arrangement of
list. Several pages torn out in front, but list not impaired. No title page. Head of list
reads Fountayne Library; 24 pp. PP. 25-29 contain pasted in clippings from dealer's
catalogues; remaining pages are blank. Several clippings loose or laid in. Laid in is letter,
1921: Jan. 26 from W.D. Atkinson, attorney, to Prof. J. H. Zumbalen, Washington University Law
School, verifying Payne Ratner's honest completion of exams in his office, in Parsons, Kansas.
T.L.S., 1 p. Verso, list of 6 titles, with appropriate location number from the collection
above. Back cover bears circulation card with Dewey classification and card stamped 1942.
Front cover bears Washington University bookplate. Catalogue assumed originally to be the gift
