Scope: This draft of Queen Mary's Lament is reproduced in facsmilie in Poems
and Letters in the Handwriting of Robert Burns (Printed for the Burns Club, St. Louis,
1908) in which it is noted that the original is in the possession of Frederick W. Lehmann. The
poem later passed into the hands of his son, Sears L. Lehmann. The draft shows, [3-4], that
the poem passed from Gilbert Burns, the poet's brother, to [James Gills] of Edinburgh in
1814.
