& seventeen Defendant had
- yet the said Defendant although often requested hath not yet paid to the said
Plaintiff the said sum of four hundred
dollars last mentioned or any part thereof
but hitherto hath wholly refused & still refuses

And for that whereas the said Plaintiff
afterwards to wit on the same day & year
last aforesaid at the place & within the
jurisdiction aforesaid at the appointment & request of the said Defendant
had agreed to enter into the service &
employment of the said Defendant as
a trader - and to go up the MissouriMissouri River to trade with the Indians
for the said Defendant and to continue
in his service & employment as such trader
untill the month of June thereafter as such
trader the said Defendant in
thereof promised to pay the said plaintiff
therefor four hundred dollars - upon the
completion of the said term of service
And the said plaintiff says that he
entered into the service & employment
of the said Defendant as such trader upon
the day of year last aforesaid and proceeded up the MissouriMissouri river
