the defendant.

Question 3rd did you ever have any conversation
with the defendant relative to the plaintiff
having been hired to work in IllinoisIllinois & if so
state what it was.

answer some time in 1828 I think in June
& so in the winter following I had some
conversation with the Defendant in
which he made some statement about
his hands working at GalenaGalena of IllinoisIllinois
but I can not state any thing in particular
more than that RalphRalph was
among them but how they got there
I can not say with certainty but think
that he said one of his brothers
had taken them to GalenaGalena

Question 4 Did you understand from
the Defendant whether RalphRalph
was taken to GalenaGalena with or without
his consent.

answer there was nothing said about
consent. I was in a kind of friendly
conversation about his & my own success
generally & I saw nothing that indicated
his as he spoke of it as a matter
in the course of his affairs & my inference
was that he had sent RalphRalph and one
other the name of which I do not recollect
