If the Jury find from the evidence
that BurdBurd a manufacturer and
repairer in copper used his slave
named LewisLewis Scott ScottLewis Scott in the business,
that in Burd's absence from
the State the establishment
was carried on as tho he were
present, and that his interest
in it continued and that said
LewisLewis remained there working
as before, and was by the person
in authority in Burd's
establishment sent over to
repair copper works in St. LouisSt Louis,
and that the slave
did so go and work in IllinoisIllinois it
is an introduction of slavery
into IllinoisIllinois such as will produce
the freedom of a slave
