Be it remembered that on the twenty ninth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two, at gaol in the city &
county of St. LouisSt Louis was bought before
the undersigned Judge of the Eighth
Judicial Circuit of MissouriCircuit Court , Thaddeus
Alonzo a child of color under the writ
this day by the undersigned issued under
the 4th and 5th sections of an act entitled
âan act to enable persons
âheld in slavery to sue for their freedomâ
and the parties in the writ named
having declined to enter in the recognizance
required by the seventh section of
the said act, and the said child
being but a few months old and utterly
helpless, & incapable of being disposed
of under the eighth section of the
said act, therefore it is ordered that
Marshall BrothertonMarshall Brotherton Esqre Sheriff of the
County of St. LouisCounty of St Louis do keep the said
child subject to the order of this
Court.
