If they believe from the evidence that the defendant hired the Plaintiff [illegible] as a slave, & the witness RussellRussell , [illegible]provingto the commencement of this CourtStated by such witness, such hiring is evidence against the defendant of holding the plaintiff in Slavery, within the meaning of the act Concerning âFreedomâ.

2. If they believe from the evidence that the defendant hired the plaintiff, as a Slave, to ^ the witness RussellRussell , it is no answer to such act of hiring that the defendant acted as the agent of, or on behalf of others.

3. Hiring a person as a Slave, who is entitled to his freedom, or claiming and receiving pay for such hire are is evidence of holding ^ such person in Slavery, within the meaning of the act concerning âFreedomâ.
