Your petitioner respectfully represents
that a certain slave, by nameDavidDavid ,
belonging to the estate of Thomas F BrownThomas F Brown
of VirginiaVirginia and of which estate your petitioner
is administrator and agent for the heirs of this
estate, and having control of the slave of said
Estate, is illegally confined and kept from
the Custody of your petitioner in the St Louis
County jail by virtue of a from
PeterPeter W. Johnstone, a Justice of the peace for
and within the county of St LouisSt Louis & state of MissouriMissouri
a copy of which has been demanded of the jailor and
refered, on the charge of being a run-away slave-

That said slave according to law ought to be
delivered to your petitioner and not confined in
jail. He therefore prays that the writ of Habeas
Corpus may issue, that the case may be investigated
and disposed of as prescribed by law.
