Amy Moor a resident of said County complains to your
Hons respectfully states to your Hon that she is
at the present time held in slavery in said County
By one Robert N Moore That she your petitioner
has firm grounds on which she claims her right
to freedom which are as follows that on or about
the year eighteen hundred and thirty, She your
petitioner was hired out as a slave in SpringfieldSpringfield
in the State of IllinoisIllinois, by the PersonPerson was at said
last mentioned time her your petitioners master
and owner and that her then owner and master whose
name is not now known to your petitioner hired out
your petitioner to work for and serve one MrMarbly
according to his own will but against the will and
consent of your petitioner at the time and place
aforesaid to wit in the year 1830at SpringfieldSpringfield in
the said State of IllinoisIllinois for the full term of two
years from the date last aforesaid all of which
times, to wit, two years she your petitioner was
then and there kept in labour and service as
a slave contrary to law- That after the expiration
of the said two years she was She was sent to the
State of MissouriMissouri from said State of IllinoisIllinois
and sold as a slave to Robert N. Moor of St LouisSt Louis
your petitioner therefore prays your Hon to grant
her leave to sue as a poor person to establish her
right to Freedom and as is duty bound she will
ever pray-

Amy MooreAmy Moore complains of Robert N Moore
of a plea of trespass for that whereas
the said Defendant [ Defendant ] on the tenth day September in year eighteen hundred and forty four with force
and arms at the County aforesaid beat
bruised injured and her the said Plaintiff and
then and there her the said plaintiff
and kept and detained her in prison there
without any probable cause whatever for
a long span of time to wit twelve hours then and
there following contrary to the laws of the said
state and against the will of the said
plaintiff And the said plaintiff
further that she the said plaintiff
before and at the time of the said grievance
was and still is a free person and
that the said defendant held and still
holds the said plaintiff in slavery and
other wrongs to the said plaintiff did the
said defendant then and there do,
Contrary to the peace and against
the State And to the damage of the
said plaintiff of five hundred dollars
and therefore the said plaintiff
brings said & C.

have reasonable liberty at attend her Counsel
and the Court as occasion may require, during
the pending of said suit, that she be not
removed without the jurisdiction of the State, and
that she be not subjected to any severity on
account of her application for freedom.

Trespass. For. Freedom

It is admitted by the plaintiff
and defendant in the above case that defendant claims the
above named plaintiff as a slave for life by
title derived from one Cartright who was the
former owner of said AmyAmy thatabove
years ago the thenowner of the said AmyAmy the plaintiff
was travelling with his slaves through the State ofIllinois
IllinoisIllinois to MissouriMissouri and having a difficulty by shooting a
man was detained by of Court in
the said state for about six months and during
that time the said AmyAmy was retained by her
then master under whom the defendant claims
title to the said plaintiff AmyAmy during the said
six months in the said state of IllinoisIllinois she
was after the expiration of such time to wit
about six months brought to the state of
MissouriMissouri and sold to the present defendant
all of which is respectfully submitted on the part
of the plffs counsel to the Court it is further
admitted that plaintiff was about tenyears old Seal
and there was no unavoidable delay in removing the said Seal
slave from the state of IllinoisIllinois aforesaid - Seal
