The following Business Directory may be relied on as generally correct. In some instances, no doubt, employee
have been set down as principals;— this, in a first canvass, must be the case, to some extent; but all such errors
will be corrected in the next annual volume.....The asterisk (*) has been used to designate wholesale dealers; yet, in
some instance; where this character is used, the parties are both wholesale and retail dealers.....In preparing this
Key, it has been the aim of the publisher to do justice to all, by placing every kind of business under its legitimate
head. With this view, tho persons engaged in canvassing were explicitly instructed to make full reports, and ample
notice was given to the public through th press. If, therefore, omissions have been made and errors committed, the
fault must rest elsewhere than with the publisher; and although them reports may lack much of being complete,
they will, at least, serve as a guide in making up the next and succeeding volumes.
