Dear Sir:-I received only a few days ago, your letter of the 10th of January, and
with it a beautiful copy of your Great West, for which I make you my most grateful acknowledge-
ments. You justly appreciated my interest in the subject of your book, in this act of acceptable re-
membrance. The Great West is becoming every day a more significant and salutary power in our
political and social system, and the men whose services you have done so much to commenenorate, are
rising rapidly in the estimate of the rulers of our destiny. I shall remember very gratefully this
friendly communication of yours.

With kindest regard,

I am, very dear Sir, Yours,

John P.Kennedy,
