Interview with Mary Frances Berry
QUESTION 14
JACKIE SHEARER:

As a Howard alumna, what did you feel, what did you think when you heard the news of the student takeover in '68?

MARY FRANCIS BERRY:

And I thought that there was a great need for the institution, while it maintained high standards, and high academic standards, and taught all the kinds of courses that students should be expected to learn, to be more aware of its particular responsibility to being a bridge between the past, present, and future for Black folk. And I think that's what the students were about.
