Interview with Mary Frances Berry
QUESTION 19
JACKIE SHEARER:
Now, can you give me that, saying the Black Panthers or the Black Panther Party explicitly, because, ah, your response was a little general.
MARY FRANCIS BERRY:
OK, um, I'm a lawyer, but I'm also a historian and also a Black person, and I understand that in order to make change in society, lawyers play a role, litigation plays a role, activities of organizations like the Black Panthers play a role, and that these are all participants in a struggle. And while I might not be a participant in one particular kind of activity, and I do what I do, I understand how the pieces fit together in order to make change.
