Interview with Herbert X. Blyden
QUESTION 7
INTERVIEWER:

What was your role in the yard at the time? Describe how you got selected as one of the leaders.

HERB BLYDEN:

As a result of the Tombs uprising in 1970 and my 72-count indictment for the Tombs uprising, a lot of the inmates from the Weather faction, the Muslim, the Young Lords, the Panthers and the Five Percenters, suggested that there be a 15 member committee set up to negotiate with the outside officials, and I was selected unanimously by that group to chair the inmate negotiating team.

INTERVIEWER:

OK, let's cut a second.
