WOULD YOU SAY THAT THERE WERE COSTS POLITICALLY TO THE PRESIDENT, OR EMOTIONAL COSTS IN TERMS OF THE NATION'S HEALTH UH AS A RESULT OF THIS?

Um, President Eisenhower was very loathe to intervene in the uh, in the Little Rock situation he uh, wanted so much to have the Brown decision enforced without confrontation wherever possible, that it was uh really a great struggle in his mind uh, before he reached a decision that he had to intervene, in order to carry out his constitutional duty to enforce uh the Supreme Court's decision
