I'VE JUMPED AGAIN. DID YOU UNDERSTAND BY THAT, THAT HE MEANT TROOPS, WAS THAT CLEAR AT THAT POINT?

Judge Charles Clark:

I cannot remember that incident precisely. I can remember it in this way. I remember that after uh, Governor Barnett had defied the court order and interposed himself between the registrar and Meredith and turned Meredith away that there was a question of what action would be taken uh, to enforce the courts order. And I can remember at that point the United States had intervened in the Meredith case which up until that time had been Meredith represented by the NAACP council uh against the board of trustees represented by the attorney general's office.
