Interview with William Lucy

How did he speak that night? Can you remember, how was the crowd reaction?

Well, the crowd completely reacted as, as, as, as only a crowd could react to Dr. King. I mean, his, his oratory skills were incredible, but again, his ability to interpret this and to put it into words that were so basic and so simple that everybody could understand, and he brought the, ah, the audience to just a fever pitch. I mean, ah, and I think in the course of that speech recognized that, that this was a new movement, ah, in America and a new movement among working people, a new movement among poor people, and one that had to be supported.
