Interview with John Nichols
QUESTION 9
INTERVIEWER:

OK, let's go back now to a question that I didn't ask you which is sort of about the early '60s, which is what effect did Mayor Cavanagh actually have ?

JOHN NICHOLS:

Well, I think Mayor Cavanagh, when he was elected, was elected by a very popular vote; he was a young man, I think he offered to the city a young, a fresh approach, it was his first venture into politics, he took hold, his first team that he put together in terms of city government was people composed of experts and outstanding examples of the disciplines needed to put the city together, so I think that, that what Jerry Cavanagh did was to sound a note that the city was on the move.
