Can you describe for me the gravity of the situation that, in terms of the hostages, in terms of how many people were now in D Yard. What, how grave was the situation you were facing?
It was very grave, there were over a thousand people in the yard. There were some 43 hostages, many had been battered and beaten badly, and ah, there was a sense of euphoria, everyone was jubilant, they thought they had the thing won. And, ah, they were going to show the state and the commissioner, and the governor, and everyone else that this had to change. And I wanted it to change.
