Interview with Rev. Frederick Reese
QUESTION 20
INTERVIEWER:

WERE YOU AWARE THAT SNCC AND SCLC WERE FEUDING AND WHAT KIND OF POSITION DID THAT PUT YOU IN AS A LOCAL ACTIVIST?

Rev. Frederick Reese:

I was aware that uh, there were philosophy differences. In many instances, uh, uh, logistical differences, even on projects that uh, you know, had been approved by SCLC and uh, SNCC at any one time. My role was more of a mediator. As a local person who had, in a sense, uh, invited these uh, national organizations to come in to assist to try to uh, reach consensus and agreement on policies and procedures. Often time, I would uh, be in the middle trying to lead uh, the two groups into uh, consensus.
