Interview with Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth
QUESTION 19
INTERVIEWER:

BRIEFLY, REV. SHUTTLESWORTH, HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME ACMHR?

Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth:

I board made we wanted to be Christian, expected to cover all of Alabama eventually at one time or another and Rev. Alfred, who was pastor, started the Baptist Church at which he met. I said "It had to be called a movement, it had to be Christian." He said, "Well I suggest we call it the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights." That's how the name came up.
