Interview with Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth
QUESTION 26
INTERVIEWER:

THERE WAS NO, NO PROBLEM INTERESTING THE MIDDLE CLASS IN SUCH THAT WE'VE ALSO READ THAT THEY FELT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO BE GAINED AND A LOT FOR THEM TO LOSE.

Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth:

It's true that happened in Birmingham at first. You must remember I was a pariah in, many times, somebody to be avoided. They knew I was going on because of just my will and determination. And I was, I was friends with them, we never clashed, but so far as the middle class joining in at first, the answer is no.
