Interview with Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth
QUESTION 49
INTERVIEWER:

AFTER THE 16TH STREET BOMBING WE HAVE HEARD THAT A LOT OF BLACKS GATHERED AMMUNITION AND GUNS TO FIGHT BACK. IS THAT TRUE?

Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth:

I heard that, and I'm sure that maybe to some extent it was true. But I think teaching of Dr. King, it wouldn't have been done as a movement or as a part of the movement anyway. You know, you always have people who would like to do things other than what they are represented as being or doing, but it wouldn't have been the movement that would have been using guns as a movement, no.
