Interview with Paul N. Ylvisaker
QUESTION 26
INTERVIEWER:

Did you ever lose a close friend over the issues of race and racial control?

PAUL YLVISAKER:

Well, during the middle of the riots when I was off to the wars, I'd come back, and my son was working at a gas station, and I can never forget the look on his face when he had heard that I had quote "saved the Black community" of, of both Newark and Plainfield with the willingness to negotiate. He looked at me and he says, "Dad, explain to me what you're doing." Because we lived in a community of, of rednecks, and his, he was affected by that, he needed his dad to say what he was doing negotiating with those people.
