Interview with Rev. Andrew Young
QUESTION 23
INTERVIEWER:

NOW I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A HIT LIST OF EVENTS, AND I WANT SOME OF THIS SIMILAR KIND OF RESPONSE IF YOU CAN. THE NIGHT JIMMY LEE JACKSON WAS KILLED? CAN YOU DESCRIBE IT? WE'RE YOU THERE?

Rev. Andrew Young:

We'd been in, on the night Jimmy Lee Jackson was killed, ah, we had been to ah, Marion and had come back to Selma, and so we didn't really know for sure that he was dead for a few days. We knew that after the demonstration and after we left, ah, that the State Troopers had gone around intimidating people, and roughing them up, ah, and we had heard that ah, there was a particular rough ah, handling of one young Vietnam Veteran. But we didn't know who he was and we didn't know what happened until a few days later.
