Um, well I had grown up in Louisiana, and I'd travelled a lot around Mississippi and I always knew that my life as a black man wasn't worth very much. Ah, fortunately I had developed enough coping skills ah, to avoid confrontations and to talk my way out of most difficulties. Ah, but ah, nobody ever felt safe and secure.
