Know all men by these presents that
we Charlotte Brown as principal and
Benj. F. McKinneyWilliam Smith & Louis DuBruid as securities are held
and firmly bound unto the State of
MifsouriMissouri in the full and just sum of
two hundred dollars for the true
payment whereof we bind ourselves
our heirs, executors, administrators and
afsignsassigns jointly and severally by these
presents sealed with our seals and
dated this second day of May eighteen hundred & forty three. The Condition
of this obligation is such that whereas
Charlotte Brown a free woman of color
has this day obtained from the County
Court of St Louis County a license to
remain in this State, as a free of color,
under the provisions of an Act of the
General AfsemblyAssembly of the State of
MifsouriMissouri , entitled "An act more
effectually to prevent free persons of
color from coming into this state and for other
purposes approved the twenty third day of February eighteen hundred and forty three"_ Now the conditions of this
obligation is such that if the said Char-
-lotte Brown shall be of good behaviour
during the continuance of said license,
[ than ] the above obligations to be void
otherwise to remain in full force and
