Know all men by these presents that we
Clarinda Buckner as principal and
Alexander Phillippi as surety are holden
and stand firmly bound and obliged unto
the State of MifsouriMissouri in the full and
just sum of Four Hundred Dollars, to wit
the said Clarinda Buckner in the sum
of Two Hundred Dollars and the said Alex-
ander Phillippi in the sum of Two
Hundred Dollars, to the full and just payment
of which we do bind ourselves, our heirs, executors
and administrators firmly by these presents,
sealed with our seals, and signed, and dated
the second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty three.

The condition of this obligation is
such that whereas the said Clarinda Buckner
has applied to the County Court of this State of
County of St. Louis State of MifsouriMissouri for leave
to reside in said state, and for a license from said
Court to that effect under the provisions of an
Act of the legislation of said state entitled "An
act more effectually to prevent free persons of color
from coming into this state" & for other purposes;

Now if the said Clarinda Buckner shall
be of good behavior during the continuance
of the license granted by said Court then
this bond shall be void. otherwise shall
remain in full force & virtue _
