Know all men by these presents that we;
Mary Johnson a free negro woman as principal and
Frederick R. Courray as security, both of the City +
County of St. Louis in the State of MifsouriMissouri , in the sum
of four Hundred Dollars: towit: the said Mary
in the sum of two hundred Dollars + the said Frederick
R. Courray as security; in the sum of Two hundred Dollars
to the payments of which said sumof money we bind
ourselves our + each of our heirs executors and adminis-
trators jointly + severally by these presents Sealed with our
seals, the fourth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred + forty three

The condition of this obligation is such, whereas, the
said Mary Johnson, has this day obtained from the
County Court, of St. Louis County, as license to remain in
this State under the provisions of an act of the General
Assembly, of the Sate of MifsouriMissouri ; entitled an act;
more effetually to prevent free persons of Color from
coming in the State, and for other purposes.

Now, therefore, if the said Mary Johnson shall be
of good behavior during the continuance of said
license, then the above obligation, to be void, otherwise
to be + remain in full force + virtue.
