Free Negro Bond for Robinson

Know all men by these presents that we James Robinson(a
free person of color) of the County of Saint Louis and State of MifsouriMissouri
as principal, and RobertAlexanderHamilton of said County and State as
security are held and firmly bound unto the State of MifsouriMissouri in
the just and full sum of two hundred dollars for the payment of
which sum well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs
and legal representatives._

Witness our hands and seals this fifth day of May in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty three._

The Condition of the above obligation is such that
whereas the County Court of the County of Saint Louis did on the
third day of May, eighteen hundred and fortly three grant to the
said James Robinson a license to reside in the state of MifsouriMissouri under
the provisions of an act entitled "an act more effectually to prevent
free persons of color from entering into this State and for other purposes" approved Feb. 23, 1843_Now if teh said James Robinson
shall be of good behavior as required by said act then this bond to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue_
