To all who shall see these presents--Greeting:
Know Ye, that Kitty Griffin aged thirty three,
years, Five feet seven inches high,
and by occupation a chambermaid
having on the fifteenth day
of September in the
year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty nine produced satisfactory
evidence before the County Court Board of County Commissioners of said county,
that she is of the class of
free negros and mulattoes who are
authorized by law to be licensed by said
Court
Board to reside within the State of Missouri; that she is of good
charac-
ter and behavior, and capable of supporting her self by lawful employment;
and having
also obtained from said Court Board an order for a license to
reside
within the State aforesaid: These are, therefore, to license and
authorize the
said Kitty Griffin to
reside within the State
aforesaid, so long as she shall be of good behavior, and
no longer.
In Testimony Whereof, I. Lewis F. Lacy Samuel V. Eager Jr.
Secretary of the Board of Comissioners Clerk of the County Court of said
County, have here-
unto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court Board at
