To all who shall see these presents--Greeting:
Know Ye, that John Evans aged twenty one,
years, Five feet eight inches high,
bright mulatto
anchor on the left hand. star on right hand.
or Brig on right arm & dancing girl on left arm
and by occupation
a Musician and servant having on the first day of April in the year of our
Lord eighteen hundred and fortysixty one produced satisfactory
evidence before the Board of County Court of said county, that
he is of the class of
free negros
and mulattoes who are authorized by law to be licensed by said Court
to reside within the State of Missouri; that he is of good
charac-
ter and behavior, and capable of supporting him self by lawful employment;
and having
also obtained from said Court an order for a license to
reside
within the State aforesaid; These are, therefore, to license
and authorize the
said John Evans
to reside within the State
aforesaid, so long as he shall be of good behavior, and no longer.
