Know all men by these presents that we Alexander
Edrington as principal and Soren Spencer as security
are held and jointly bound unto the State of
MifsouriMissouri in the [ in the ] just and full sum of
Two hundred dollars for the true payment of
which said sum of money, we bind ourselves, our
heirs, our executors administrators and
afsignsassigns jointly and severally; sealed with our
seals and dated this Fourt day of May in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty three_ The condition of this obligation
is such that whereas Alexander Edrington has
this day obtained from the County Court of St
Louis County a license to remain in this
State as a free person of color under the
provisions of an act of the General Assembly
of the State of MifsouriMissouri entitled "an act
more effectually to prevent free persons of
color from entering into this State, and
for other purposes." Approved Feb 23, 1843

Now the condition of this bond is such
that the said Alexander Edrington
shall be of good behaviour during the
continuance of said license, then
the above obligation to be void, otherwise
to remain in full force & virtue.
