Know all men by these presents that
we John Francis as principal and
Elijah C. Eads as security are held and firmly
bound unto the state of MifsouriMissouri in the penal
sum of two hundred dollars for the payment
of which well and truly to be made we bind
ourselves, our heirs, executors or administra-
tors jointly and severally firmly by these
presents sealed with their seals and dated this
fourt day of May 1843

The condition of the above obligation is such
that whereas the County Court of St Louis Coun-
ty state of MifsouriMissouri has this day aforesaid
granted a license to the above named
John Francis to reside in the said state of
MifsouriMissouri as a free person of colour. Now
if the said John Francis shall be of good
behaviour during his residence in said state
of MifsouriMissouri then this obligation to be void
in law, otherwise to remain in full force
and virtue
