Know all men by these presents that we Patsey Evans
and Josiah Clark of the city & county of Saint
Louis and State of Missouri are held and firmly bound to
the state of Missouri in the sum of five hundred dollars good and
lawful money, the payment whereof well and thereby to be
made we firmly bind our selves our heirs executors and ad-
ministrators by these presents.

The condition of the above obligation is such that
whereas the said Patsey Evans a free person of Color of the city
of St. Louis and State aforsaid has this day obtained a license
from the county court of Saint Louis County and state of Missouri
to remain in said state under and in persuance of an act entitled
"An Act to more effectually to prevent free persons of color from entering into this state
and for other purposes" Approved February twenty third in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred & forty-three NOW
therefore if the said Petsey Evans shall & do continue of good
moral character and behaviour, and to support herself by
lawful employment then this obligation to be null & void
otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue
