The State of Missouri,

To all who shall see these presents--Greeting:
Know Ye, that Mary Lee aged almost 30,
years, Five feet four inches high, black complexion
slimly built- small face
and by occupation a Room Cleaner & washer
having on the twenty second day of November in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty nine produced satisfactory
evidence before the CountyCourt Commissioners of said county, that he is of the class of
free negros and mulattoes who are authorized by law to be licensed by said
Court Comissioners to reside within the State of Missouri; that he is of good charac-
ter and behavior, and capable of supporting herself by lawful employment;
and having also obtained from said Court Commissioners an order for a license to reside
within the State aforesaid: These are, therefore to license and authorize the
said Mary Lee to reside within the State
aforesaid,so long as he shall be of good behavior, and no longer.

In Testimony Whereof, I. Lewis F. Lacy Samuel V. Eager Jr.
Secretary of the Board of Clerk of the County Court Commissioners of said County, have here
unto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court Commissioners at
the City of St. Louis, this 22nd day of November in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and Fifty nine (1859)
