Know all men by these presents that
We^Newmon Bush as Principal and Hugh Rose as Security
of the County of St. Louis, State of MifsouriMissouri are held
and firmly bound unto the State of MifsouriMissouri in the
sum of Four Hundred Dollars each to be paid
to the said State of MifsouriMissouri to which payment well
and truly to be made we do firmly bind ourselves our heirs, executors and administrators and every of them by
these presents. Sealed with our seals this third day of May Anno Domini eighteen hundred and forty three

The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the County Court of the County of
St Louis has this day granted to the said Newman Bush
a free colored man a license to reside within the
State of MifsouriMissouri . Now therefore if the said Newman Bush
during his residence in the said State of MifsouriMissouri
shall well and truly conduct himself in an honest
sober, maral and upright manner as a good and orderly
citizen of said State then this obligation to be void + of no
effect. Otherwise to remain in full force
