Known all men by these presents, that I
John Lee as principal and John Waters
as security are held and firmly bound unto
the state of MifsouriMissouri , in the just and full sum
of four hundred dollars, that is to say the said
John Lee in the sum of two hundred dollars
and the said John Waters in teh sum of two
hundred dollars, fo rthe true payment of which
sum of money we bind ourselves, one and each of
our heirs, executors, administrators and afsignsassigns joint-
ly and severally firmly by these presents, sealed
with our seals and dated this third day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three.

The condition of the above obliga-
tion is such, whereas the said John Lee has
this day obtained from the County court of St. Louis
county a license to remain in this State under the pro-
visions of an act of the General Assembly of the State
of MifsouriMissouri entitled "An act more effectually to
prevent free persons of colour from com-
ing into this state and for other purposes," Now
if the said John Lee shall be of good beha-
viour during the continuance of said License
then, the above obligation to be void, else to be and
to remain in full force and virtue.
