Know all men by these presents that I Phillis
as principal and Wm K Rusk & GW W Sparhawk
as securities are held and firmly bound unto the
State of MifsouriMissouri in the just and full sum of four
hundred dollars that is to say the said Phillis
in the sum of two hundred dollars and the said
Rusk & Sparhawk in the sum of two hundred
dollars for the true payment of which said sums of
money we bind ourselves one and each of our heirs
executors administrators and afsignsassigns jointly and
severally firmly by these presents sealed with our
seals and dated this the third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three.

The condition of the above oblig-
ation is such, whereas the said Phillis
has this day obtained from the County Court of St Louis
County a license to remain in this state under
the provisions of an act of the General AfsemblyAssembly
of the State of MifsouriMissouri entitled "An Act more
effectually to prevent free persons of color
from entering into this state and for other
purposes" Approved twenty third day of February in the year of our Lord one thous- and eight hundred & forty three. Now
if the said shall be
of good behavior during the existence
of said license then the above obligation to
be void else to be and remain in full force and virtue
