Know all men by these presents that we
John Jones as principal and Orrin Smith
as security are held and firmly bound unto
the State of Missouri in the just and full sum
of Two Hundred dollars for the true
payment of which sum of money we bind
ourselves our heirs executors administrators and
assigns jointly and severally by these presents
sealed with our seals and dated this nineteenth
day of June in the year of our Lord eighteen
hundred and forty three. The condition of
this obligation is such that whereas John Jones
has this day obtained from the County Court
of Saint Louis County a license to remain
in the State of Missouri as a free person of color
under the provisions of an act entitled "An
act more effectually to prevent free persons
of color from entering into the State and
other purposes" Now the condition of this bond
is such that if the said John Jones shall be of
good behavior during the continuance of
said license then the above obligation to be
void Otherwise to be and remain in full
force and virtue in law
