Influences - Any suburb in the world, any memory of those who live in the suburbs, indie rock music, UK movies Artist Statement - A work on suburbs and memory in a reversed time sequence of connected images, going backward from
an indoors close up on a reading adult's hands to an undefined outdoors telling stories about suburbs and city limits and returning indoors
again to a reading child hand's close up. Title Description - Without words and with one slow pan, this book of photographs portrays a whole world. Starting inside, with a shot of a young woman
absorbed in her reading and the music on her headphones, the view moves outward into the streets, schoolyards, and empty lots of an Italian
suburb. Although the sky is apocalyptically red, the images are not damning; they are intensely observed views of the order and disorders of
growing up in suburbia. The book ends back inside, with a different person, head bent, listening to music and reading magazines. This smart
refusal to close the circle with absolute coherence is the key to the subtle disruption this book enacts on the insular world it depicts. 29 June 2009
