Influences - The poems “America” by Allen Ginsburg, “Paterson” by
William Carlos Williams, Bernd and Hilla Becher’s photography of water towers
and blast furnaces.
Artist Statement - After finding the map and transcript from a 1960 bus tour around North Saint Louis, I documented the sites in their current state. The story that I uncovered was heartbreaking, especially paired with its jubilant history. For me, this is symbolic of the problem of Saint Louis: of racism, urban renewal and escapism.
