Digitization Standards
The materials on this website were encoded in Extensible Markup Language ("XML") according to the standards specified in the Textual Encoding Initiative ("TEI") P4 Guidelines; to meet the standards of the Digital Library at Washington University, the encoding was then transformed into XHTML using Extensible Stylesheet Language ("XSL"). Certain portions of this website were encoded for use in "The Versioning Machine," a TEI compliant, open-source software tool designed at the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities ("MITH") for displaying and comparing multiple versions of texts.
For more information on the protocols adopted here, see the TEI website at http://www/tei-c.org, the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities website available at http://mith2.umd.edu/, and Washington University's Digital Library website available at http://digital.wustl.edu.
All the images reproduced here were originally scanned or photographed at a resolution of at least 300 dpi and stored as TIFFs; these TIFFs will remain on file in the Department of Special Collections at Olin Library. The TIFFs were converted to JPEG format at a resolution of 72 dpi for web transmission and browser display.
