About LUNA Insight 5.6

LUNA Insight is a digital image management and delivery system that was developed by LUNA Imaging, Inc. It allows for digital images, video and sound files to be organized, stored and retrieved in ways intrinsic to each collection. LUNA Insight's workspace and presentation tools enable faculty and students to present groups of dynamic visual images which may be zoomed, scaled, panned and tiled.

How to request a LUNA account:

You may request an account on the Luna server to access privleges not provided to public users. Click here to create a Luna account.

There are two ways to access the Washington University LUNA collections:

Access the collections by using LUNA's web interface (see "How to access LUNA collections through a Web Browser" instructions below) which does not require any software installation. You will not, however, have complete LUNA functionality.
OR
Install LUNA Insight's Java (JVA) Client onto your machine (see "How to download LUNA Insight and access the collections" instructions below), which enables you to access multiple Washington University collections via LUNA Insight. For tutorials on how to use LUNA Insight, please visit the WU Libraries LUNA Tutorial website.

How to access LUNA Collections through a web browser:

1. 1. Make sure your web browser allows popups for the following link, or disable your popup blocking software.
2. 2. Click the following link: http://luna.wustl.edu:8080/BrowserInsight/BrowserInsight?cmd=start&un=public&pw=public
   3. Select the collection you wish to view from the drop down menu and click "Select."

How to download LUNA Insight and access the collections:

A one-time download of LUNA Insight's Java (JVA) Client will provide advanced features and functionality.

• • For WINDOWS/PC users:
1. 1. Download the Java Client for PC by clicking here and selecting "Open."
2. 2. Copy the Luna Imaging folder from your computer's temporary space to C:\Program Files.
3. 3. Navigate to the C drive and Program Files and open the Luna Imaging folder.
4. 4. Open Insight 5.6. and right click Insight5.6.exe.
5. 5. Choose "Send to Desktop as shortcut."
   
• • For MAC OS X Users:
1. 1. Download the MAC OS X Java Client here, using Mozilla Firefox.
• Note: this is file may require the latest version of StuffIt Expander for Mac installed.
2. 2. Double click on Lunamac.sitx on desktop and file expands.
3. 3. Drag Luna Imaging folder to your computer's applications location.
4. 4. Once the files are copied, navigate to the Insight 5.6 shortcut and save the shortcut icon to your desktop.
• Note: You may need to restart your computer.
• • Once the Download is Complete:
1. 1. Launch Luna's java client through the Insight icon on your computer's desktop.
2. 2. A gray authentication window will open.
3. 3. Enter the username "public" and password "public" and select logon.
4. 4. Select collection(s) to search.
