William MorrisonWilliam Clark, Manuel LisaManuel Lisa Andrew HenryAndrew Andrew HenryHenry Pierre Chouteau, August P Chouteau, Silvertre Labbadie, WilliamWilliam William MorrisonMorrison, Peter MenardPeter Menard SamuelSamuel Bridge, & ReubenReuben Lerris, heretofore doing and trading together under the name form & style of "The Missouri Fur CompanyMissouri Missouri Fur CompanyFur Missouri Fur CompanyCompany" complain by their Attorney of Charles Tibeau in a plea of trespass on the case, for that the said CharlesCharles heretofore to wit on the third day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred seven to wit a place on the MissouriMissouri called “a lisle a Loyal in the then District of St. Charles, & Territory aforesaid now County of HowardHoward said Territory. to wit at the County of Saint LouisCounty of Saint Louis aforesaid ( direction the jurisdiction of this Court) made his writing of that date commonly called a promissory note his own proper hand being thereunto signed ( 1 & nowhere to be shown ) whereby he acknowledged to owe to the above named Manuel LisaManuel Manuel LisaLisa as for the said Missouri Fur CompanyMissouri Missouri Fur CompanyFur Missouri Fur CompanyCompany was then & there acting as Agent & Factor for and on behalf of said plaintiffs as well as for himself in then said business up the MissouriMissouri River in the Territory aforesaid, the said Defendant then & there promised to pay to said ManuelManuel, or his order as Agent Factor as aforesaid by the name and discription of “ Im Manuel LisaManuel Manuel LisaLisa Factor de la Compagny des du Missoury" the just Sum of two hundred & seventy one Dollars and fifty nine Cents Lawful money of the United StatesUnited States when thereunto afterwards he should be requested, for the Value there of received in diving merchandise received by said Defendant from the aforesaid Agent. I for payments made to several persons for him said Tebeau by said ManuelManuel an Agent as aforesaid. the then & there delivered the same promissory note to said Agent for said plaintiffs. Whereby an action hath: to said plaintiffs to recover if have of & from said Defendant the aforesaid Sum of money mentioned in said promissory note when thereunto afterwards he should be requested. Nevertheless the said Defendant though often requested to pay said Sum of money mentioned in said promissory note, to said plaintiffs to wit on the day and year & at the place last aforesaid, to wit at the County of Saint LouisCounty of Saint Louis aforesaid. Hath never paid the same Sum of money nor any part nor pencil thereof to said plaintiffs nor to any person for them, but so to hitherto hath ever refused & still doth refuse to the Damage of said plaintiffs four hundred Dollars; wherefore they Sue &c.
