Whereas Meriwether LewisMeriwether, Meriwether LewisLewis by his attornies William ClarkWilliam Clark and WilliamWilliam Clean executed his certain deed of mortgage dated 20 day of September 1809, by which the said LewisLewis conveyed to me the undersigned Jacob PhilipsonJacob Philipson for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundered & ninety dollars one thousand aspens of land, being the undivi-ded one third part of three thousand aspens which the said LewisLewis acquired of Piere Chouteau Sr and Bindgett his wife by deed bearing date the third of August in the year 1808 which said land is a part of a tract orig-inally contained four thousand eight hundered and fifty aspens, and was granted to JosephJoseph Adortis by the Spanish Government situate about six miles north west from the city of St LouisSt Louis county of St LouisSt Louis MissouriState Missouriof Missouri, on a creek called MarieMarie Ceastor, and whereas the said mortgage premises were sold on the 27th day of October in the year 1810 ( eighteen hun-dred and ten) in conformity with a decree of the court of common Pleas for the county of St LouisSt Louis and according to the condition expressed in said mortgage and the said sum of eight hundered & ninety dollars with interest re-covered and paid over to me by my attorney Edward HempstedEdward Edward HempstedHempsted and whereas JamesJames the present own er of the said one thousand aspens of land is apprepensive that the proceeding, in relation to the sale of said land in Compliance with the dieree of the court were not in every respect regular and according to law. Now therefore to quite all doubts as to the legality of the proceeding as aforesaid, and for the considerations be-fore mentioned I the said JacobJacob Phillipsn have remised re-leased and forever quited claim, and do by these pres-ents remise release and forever quit claim unto said JamesJames Lewing and to his heirs and assigns forever the said thosuand arpens of land, and all right title interest and claim in and to the same, and to its , and do hereby give and grant the same with its appentenances into said Jenmings his heirs and assigns forever hereby acknowledging that I have rec. full and entire satisfaction of the martgage aforesaid and every part and parcel of the sum secured thereby.
